You know what you think of when you see folks with the egghead on Twitter, well, the lovely suitcase for your company name when looking at your Facebook personal page gives me the same heebie jeebies! (yes, that’s a word!)
Anyways, when I know that my friend has a business and I want to support them, I obviously go to their Facebook page and see “where they work”. This should tell me where they work – or their business name which is linked to their business. I can go to their business page and like it and from there even check out their website for more information in their business page About Us section.
Eeeeekkkkk… hold the phone, there isn’t a work history, no business listed or one that isn’t an actual page but that suitcase thingy? What?? Friends don’t let friends claim the Facebook Suitcase.
Seriously people, you can’t expect your friends to know everything about your business let alone remember the name of it and what the URL is. Best way to HELP them out, is provide that for them. Obviously they know your name, so finding you is way easier than trying to remember what your business name is, or if the name is similar to others, which one is yours. GOLDEN info here folks.
Check out this video on what a linked page is and a few examples of where there isn’t a linked page. By the way, I hook up my friends and reached out to them to tell them it wasn’t linked. (4 minutes)
Then, of course, I want to be sure you know how to link your page, so this video, half the length (2 minutes) of the first one and shows you how you can link it. I got your back!
Hopefully this has helped you out and well, if you already have your Facebook page linked/connected, I’m so proud of you! Please share this blog or the videos on my YouTube Channel to help your friends link their Facebook pages.
This is also a great reminder to check over your About Us in Facebook and update it. While you are thinking about it, be sure to check your other social medias and make sure your About info is complete with contact information and a keyword rich description.
If you need any help with social media, be sure to contact me and let me know. Otherwise, I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts about linking your pages, other tips and tricks you use or how thankful you were for this little segment. 🙂 Have a great one!

This might be basic, as you said, but it is amazing how many people haven’t taken the time (or the know-how) to get rid of the egg or the suitcase. Your videos are very helpful and pass-on-able. No, that isn’t a real word.
Yes Beth, it is amazing how many folks have the egg or use the suitcase because they just don’t know. Glad that my videos are “pass-on-able”… I could make that work as a word! lol
That’s really handy. I had a client a couple of weeks back who wanted to know how to link his personal page to his business page. Because I don’t manage other people’s social media and it’s been quite some time since I needed to do it, I had to sit down and figure it out. If only I had this then! Never mind, I’ll be able to direct people to this in the future. Great job Kristen!
Thanks Clive… sorry I didn’t have it sooner for you! LOL But yes, I had to review it to be sure I had the correct way to do it.. you know things keep changing too! Thanks!
I find it really frustrating when I get to a Facebook page, I’m really interested in a business I happened to find and then there is NO link to there business and I can’t find it anywhere. As a consumer, I immediately forget about that business…
YES Lisa! I am with you. I try to look up a friend’s business and can’t find it because they don’t have it linked or they don’t share it. Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of that???
I am big on correcting this too! I do it for my friends and my clients alike. Great video support as well – nice addition!
Yea Stephanie, I knew you would… pet peevish for me. lol Thanks for the commentary – some folks need a visual and the video worked well, thanks!
I know there are some people that don’t care or have the time to deal with the egghead or suitcase and that’s fine, but then they can’t complain when people don’t connect with them or follow up. The reality of our very social media driven world is it’s here to stay and you can pretend you don’t have to jump on the bandwagon but good luck maintaining a customer base as the years go by unless you have some sort of business that can manage to survive without any online presence. I’m not saying they don’t exist but these days they are few and far between.
You got that right Beth… this is the tech era and you either get on it, or get left behind.
The dreaded suitcase LOL! You are so right. It never dawned on me until now, but Facebook search is where I find/remember all of my contacts if I want to connect someone else to a friend’s business. Your videos provided an easy how-to guide for anyone needing to link it up! I’ll be sure to tweet this one out.
I am with you Holly.. and thanks for sharing it!
This may seem basic, but it is something many starting and even some experienced business owners forget. The worst is the link to their own business that goes to the infamous suitcase of doom. That couple minutes to get it fixed makes a business owner look so much more professional With these easy videos, you not only pointed out the issue, but how to fix it!
Yes, very true, or since they had their personal for much longer, don’t think to go back and link them. Thanks Heather!
I so love watching your easy to watch videos. So many people don’t have them linked. Now I can refer them to you. As a non technical person I have actually guided a few artists recently & they were so appreciative. This was the first thing I learned in my first on-line course about Facebook.
Awww, thanks Roz… you are one of my biggest fans and I appreciate you. So glad to be of service for other small business owners. Yes, please do refer them to the videos and if they need help, I’d love to have a consult with them to help them with some other little things.
Actually…I think this was highly beneficial, even for us old farts who’ve been around the social media block a time or two in our walkers. I’ll go back and make sure I have taken all of your valuable tips to heart. Good stuff!
I watched your videos which illustrated on linking both personal and business pages. They have provided comprehensive step-by-step. guides for those who have wanted linking them up. They are beneficial for the purpose.
Thanks Lorii for taking the time to read/watch… and yes, very beneficial for business folks.
Kristen, I really enjoyed your videos! It was good to hear your voice.I do have my ministry page linked, but I have many times come across the suitcase on the profile of others and thought they just didn’t have a page, which I have often found odd. It’s true people want to be able to find you easily, so you should make it as easy as possible. Thanks for the great info.
Awww, thanks Daveda! Glad you enjoyed it, and hearing my voice. Similarly, glad you have your pages linked.
Hey Kristen,
I LOVE the videos. Great tips and I follow them, but I had to double check to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Sometimes for me, I like videos more than reading.
I think it helps me get to know people more by voice with the face, ya know? You’re giving me really good thoughts. Thank you.
Lisa
Thanks Lisa, I am the opposite… I like the text because I can skim to what I want to know, versus having to watch a whole video, so I made a point to do both and keep the videos short and sweet. Thanks so much! Felt weird hearing my own voice though, it’s so high! LOL Glad to give you great thoughts! 😉
I never thought about this until now. I just added my business page to my work history, but it doesn’t show up on my timeline like it does on yours. My friends would have to click About to see it. My timeline shows an “Intro.” Any tips on that?
I’m so glad Victoria… let me take a look… and I’ll see if I can help.
