HA! Made you look! Search engine optimization isn’t a one night stand and can’t be done as such. If anyone tells you that they can get a keyword or your website on the first page of Google in a short period of time, RUN! Obviously, rankings on the search engines will depend upon the keywords and the competitiveness of them. Similarly, the more competitive, the more work is required and the less competitive, the quicker you should climb the rankings later, all things considered.
What’s a good amount of time?
There is no magic number of months, just like there is no miracle pill… for anything. I usually tell folks they can expect to see some movement of the search engine result rankings within 3-6 months of optimization.
All things considered…
There are other things that are considered in the rankings. Such considerations are where the keywords and website are currently ranked? Were there any Google penalties due to black hat tactics? (poor ethics) How long has the website been around? What is the footprint of the website on the internet? Your footprint has to do with your total interaction on the World Wide Web. Are you able to be found on industry business listings or on Manta, Yelp, Yellow Pages, the Better Business Bureau, Chamber organization and of course interacting in social media, blogs, forums and etc. This can help or hurt you in that Google takes everything online into consideration.
But think of it this way, if you aren’t optimizing your website on a monthly basis, then consumers won’t find you. If they can’t find you this month and you aren’t doing anything optimizing, they surely won’t find you any easier next month. You still with me?
So, optimize it now, every month, from here on out. What happens after you optimize each page and you have no need to add more pages – you visit them again! Another great opportunity to provide fresh, and hopefully optimized content, is writing blogs, on your website. It needs to be on your website, not linked to it in order to provide the SEO value. Blogs are a win-win situation and can provide fresh content that is user and search engine friendly, if done well.
Hopefully this has helped you understand your need to be optimizing your website. Check out my blogs for more information about SEO, or contact me with any questions you may have. I am happy to provide these services for you or consult you so you can do them for yourself. Either way, I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for sharing Kristen. I’m in a unique situation. My webpage/site/store doesn’t belong to me so I have to work my blog to send traffic that way. Since November, I’ve become more consistent with adding weekly content to the blog so that’s a start.
That isn’t all too unique.. but you are doing the right things Patricia! Great on you for being more consistent with your weekly content tho!
Great advice about a tricky subject and I love the title! Is that a good idea – having a title that is eye-catching but doesn’t contain a keyword? I’d like to know that, Kristen.
Thanks on the title and that should have answered your question… content is King so it is better to grab the attention and inform the consumers over stuffing keywords. 😉
Having great content will always trump keyword rich crappy content.
You definitely got me with the title, Kristen!
SEO has always felt very overwhelming to me — so involved, so many continual tasks, so many things to remember to do. That’s why hiring an expert (like yourself) to help maintain that for me has been one of the BEST things I’ve done in my biz.
Thanks.
Glad that you have found an SEO expert that you trust to do your SEO, it will benefit your business as long as you continue it!
Strong keywords are important! and I love the title too! Very catchy lol.
Thanks Mike… that was the plan! 😉
yeah that title made me giggle. Great post, thanks for the tips!
Glad to help with tips and to make you giggle.. that was the idea. 😉
Great article and I love the title. It’s certainly very catchy. I personally like the fact that SEO isn’t about cramming lots of keywords in. Creating good content is far more important.
Thanks Clive… glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it is way better to have great content than spammy stuff. 🙂
I really didn’t understand the importance of blogging to increasing SEO rating. Thank you!
It’s fresh new content… plus provides more stuff you can share with your followers on social in hopes to help them and drive them to other pages on your site. Glad to help Indira!
That’s a shocking title! You almost got me there! And yes, SEO doesn’t necessarily work that way. SEO isn’t one of those things that happens overnight, but as you know better than most, it is a culmination of consistent effort over time.
Haha.. made ya look! Thanks Edmund, I appreciate that!
