Many businesses who create their own ad campaign don’t know all of the ins and outs of Google Adwords, which is understandable, but it is worth your money and time to do your campaign right from the start? It should be.
As mentioned in a two part series – Did you Pay for that Click, there a lot of idiosyncrasies that need to be checked, created, set up and rechecked on a regular basis. Extensions are essential to begin a campaign but man is it helpful if you do. If you found out that extensions could improve your click through rate, increase your ad ranking due to increase quality score (get intimate with Quality Score with this blog), improve trust, and… at no cost to you, would you use it? You betcha, so why haven’t you?
There are several extensions that you can add but here I will discuss three that I find to be of utmost importance – location, sitelink and call.
- Call extensions – are just that, they provide a phone number and it is especially helpful when the user is on mobile, they can click through the phone number. I’m sure you would see the benefit in that! There is another feature that you can have a Google forwarding number. I’ve preferred to use the actual phone number, but there is that option.
- Location extensions – make it easier for consumers to find you. Again, this is especially important on a mobile phone and it typically provides directions, so users in the area looking for something, they shouldn’t have a problem finding you.
- Sitelink extensions – are additional links to other products or services on your website. If you are a health coach and the ad is to your services for a fitness camp, a great extension might be meal plans, a page on your site listing products for sale and another good one would be contact. This is just a great way to provide more links to your website within this one ad. One thing to note is that sitelink extensions only show at the top and bottom of the paid search on the search engine results page, not on the right side, so positioning is key.
None of these extensions are at an extra charge; it is just the cost for that click. This is a great option because if a searcher types in a query and your ad shows up, you provide them with various options, a location, a phone number and other links to your page. They won’t have to search your website for them as they are right there!
If this still isn’t your thing or you don’t have the time to run your campaign effectively, let me know and I would love to help set up and run your campaign. It can be very valuable to your business and I love to help businesses grow! Contact me and let me know how I can help.

I didn’t know about those extensions, Kristen. Thank you for mentioning them!
Thanks Beth and you’ve got it.. that’s why I did it! Are you running any PPC campaigns?
Yay, I’m off to add extensions, I just started on Google Adwords in the last 10 days.
Awesome…let me know if you need help.. I would love to save you money on your clicks
One of the things I just used yesterday was (apparently) a call extension that allowed me to make a call directly from the website at the press of a button. That was very nice. Good stuff here, Kristen; thanks.
Yes, that’s right… well, it might be a floating and clickable phone number, but if they had it on an ad, that is what it was. Thanks Jackie
I learned something new again today. Thanks Kristin.
Awesome… I love to help others… but I, like you… love to learn new things too!
Great article Kristen. Very informative.
Thanks Clive!
Love the pointers Kristen. One thing that specifically stood out was the info about the sitelink extentions. Pretty cool and valuable when it comes to promotionals or add-ons.
Excellent, thanks Edmund… that was what I was trying to portray in this post. 😉
Awesome information! I had no idea about extensions.
That’s why I did it Indira! 😉 Glad to help.
Great tips thank you so much.
Great tips Kristen! Just this past weekend I was able to use an extension list that someone posted in their link – had never seen it before and now I know why 🙂
That’s awesome Stacy.. nice to know what you are looking at, right!?
