I had a nice 1-on-1 consultation with a client over the weekend and I was super excited that she was excited and learned so much. She had previously paid someone to do social media services and in some of her questions, she was mentioning how the folks she was paying said she couldn’t do this and that. For example, they indicated that she couldn’t alter her cover picture. It was a beautiful skyline of the area but had open space – perfect for a tagline and her phone number. I showed her how to add text to her cover picture in Canva and/or PicMonkey and the picture looked so much better and is using prime real estate. She’s a realtor and understands that value! 😉
Anyways, we went over all of the basics for her to post to her business page, how often to post, what time to post as well as create like campaigns and boosting posts. We also discussed how important it is to engage not only with folks ON her page, but to actively go out and like other business pages (as her business) and engage on their pages, to include sharing to her business page, commenting and liking. She learned so much and it’s so hard to retain all that information from our 3 hour (yes, three hour) consult, that she reaches out with a few questions here and there. Well, could you imagine why her brain was on overload? SHE wanted to extra hour, mind you! I guess I am a great teacher! 🙂 Toot toot!
Just today she emailed me… “what am I doing wrong” and said that she couldn’t post from HGTV to her business page, that it kept reverting to her personal page. So, I opened up SnagIt and recorded her a little video and sent it off to her. I didn’t use an audio because they were just a few steps, but sometimes it helps to see what’s going on. Then, I thought, well, other people may be having the same issue, so thought I would share here.
This was a 1 minute video showing me starting from my personal Facebook page, navigating to HGTV, then to use FB as my business from the drop down in the upper right corner in the blue bar and then being able to share from HGTV as my business.
This is just something that might be simple for some but quite helpful to others. Either way, I hope you are able to share with others so they can help engage from their business page, which will help their reach on their business page.
Should you have any questions on social media, engaging on social media or want a 1on1 consult for you and your business to boom, contact AVB, I’d love to help.

Of course you can help anyone- begginer or advanced. Many people don’t know how to schedule a share from their page, so I would do a video With Sound to teach that.
What always bothers me is at end of a video- yours too- it doesnt return to start of yours. It went onto someone else’s video. I left it but his voice continued & Id want to find it again but clueless who it is- lost the url. Strange.
Thanks Roz…and that irritates me about YouTube also.. that’s how they hook you, it is irritating. I’ll check my settings and see if there is a way, but not thinking so. Thanks again!
Facebook is changing so often that it can be hard and frustrating to keep up! I’m going to check out SnagIt tool. I hadn’t heard of that tool and it looks interesting.
Girl, no lie.. technology, FB is no exception, always changing. I found it (Snagit) on Cnet and it had good reviews, low cost, because you are buying the software, essentially.
This is a great fundamental lesson for those of us who are just starting out with that “dual” role in FB! I will share this with my team!
Thanks so much Natalie, I totally appreciate it. There are so many things you can learn from social and how do we do it all.
You’ve given her some amazing advice, go you!
Awww, thanks Sonya! It helped her, she needed a little extra guidance and a tutorial, quick little video was helpful. 🙂
I swear that the more I am on social media the less sometimes I think I actually know and learn! I feel your clients pain…glad you were able to help her in her time of need 🙂
Great article. Well written, to the point… and most importantly, really clear instructions to follow even for people who are just starting up with FB.
Thanks Erika, I appreciate it… we all had to start somewhere, right?
I love the way you make things so simple, Kristen. Thank you for all that you are teaching me!
Thanks Carol. I am so glad that you are learning great things to help your business grow and that I am a part of that!
Great way to show how it’s done. You are the expert & you made your client feel that you were THE one to show her how to navigate her FAN page. Awesomesauce!!!
Awww, thanks Liz. I had a 1on1 with her so the hands on was great and short of doing a screen share, this was the next best option… it was helpful. Thanks!
isn’t it easy to forget things you learned a long time ago? Always great to be reminded of the basics!
Girl.. no lie and when they are constantly changing.. that makes it harder! LOL
Good stuff. Really glad you were able to help this person. I cannot tell you how many times I work with clients who have worked with someone else previously and had a similar problem.
Thanks Lisa… yea, there are so many “opinions” out there and not saying that I am always right, but let’s empower and enable the small business owner, right?
Great you could help her. Sometimes even the simple things seem complicated until you do it.
Yup, so very true.. the simple things can set off that light bulb moment for sure!
WOW you are such an awesome teacher! I love how you solve her problems with ease, instead of telling her it “can’t be done” (what a load of BS!!). Your customer service and desire to help your clients succeed is so apparent. I wish her great success in her social media platforms for RE!!
Awww, thanks Holly… glad that you think so, I really work at it. I truly DO have my clients at my best interest. Thanks for noticing.
Nice article to show newbies how to do it and I will bookmark it and send people to it who have a question about this. Thanks for doing my job for me!
Thanks Beth.. and glad to help you and your customers! LOL
A great way to give advice. And one-on-one I can understand is the best to learn how to do stuff, etc. Great job!:-)
Thanks Katarina and so very true… a 1on1 can help one learn just what they need.
Good tutorial! Short and to the point. I went out and tried this tip right away. Works great. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks so much Allyson! I’m sure you knew already, but thanks for the boost!
Nicely done, as always. How interesting that her previous social media “experts” said she couldn’t change her cover image. Duh. Glad you set her right. Thanks for the reminder that we should engage on other business pages from our own fan page. I don’t do that enough.
Yea, I thought so too Jackie… why CAN’T you add to the cover picture and some other things… crazy how folks don’t take the extra effort!
Really cool and to the point video, Kristen. I like it that it’s so short, as I’m always learning in small bits 🙂 And never worry that something you teach is too basic, because what’s obvious for you may be totally unknown for someone else!
Great point.. about the “basics”.. we do that, in our own industry, don’t we!? Thanks for the reinforcement! 😉
I enjoyed reading your article! And a vote for Snagit from me 🙂
Thanks Sue.. glad you enjoyed.. .Snagit has a trial version too!
This is a great informational post. So many new page owners have asked me how to post as their page. I can send them here now.
OMG Heather, this is like a pet peeve… soooo happy to help them!
