There are varies types of social media and with any type of technology, things change. However, if you follow some of these basic social media tips, your inner social media will come out! And when you are running a business, we need whatever ninja mojo we can get so feel free to check these tips out, use em and share them with your friends.
Let your inner self come out
First things first, when you have your social profiles done, you will want to be sure to share who you are and what your business offers. Now, this can be a product or service, but regardless, be sure to use the buzz words, those are your keywords, explaining your business that others will know. You do this within your About sections of each of your social profiles so – fill them out!
While you are completing your social media profiles, be sure to personalize them with a cover or profile picture, backgrounds or whatever those social media channels allow. There are tools to help you get your creative side out with just a little techie requirements, seriously!
Consistency is Key
Surely you will be posting to those social profiles that you spent the time to create and update, otherwise, you just wasted your time, and that’s money. Whatever social profiles you are using, be sure to post the adequate amount of times, for that social media, and then engage with those who engage with you.
Remember that you need to be where your target market and customers are… but also where your competitors are so when you get on board, give it the time and effort you need or time is wasted.
Provide value
Remember that it’s not about you even though it is your business social media page, but the point is to provide value to your consumers about whatever it is that is important to them. So, that means you will have to listen to figure that out too! Always be listening to your consumers and/or your target market to find what pains them so you can help them with the solutions.
Sure, you can promote your business, but be sure it’s not all about you. And, as with most things, you might have to spend a little money to get that engagement you want and need with your business profiles.
Be sure you are providing value to your customers to keep them coming back #facebook Click To TweetRinse and repeat
Now if it were super easy, everyone would do it… oh wait, they are… but not all of them are doing it right.. so be sure you are. Things change, they always will so continue to learn about your social media channel, how best to run it and listen to your target market/followers.
Need help?
Should you need some help creating your Facebook page, need help with what to complete, when to post, where to get content, how to create images, what kind of stuff to post, how to run ads on Facebook and so much more, I have created an 8 week, step-by-step, DIY video series that does all that and a bag of chips for under $50… you can’t go wrong. Take a look around, check it out, jump on it and get your Facebook on. The cool thing is that most of the videos aid in instruction on the other social profiles… but learn to kill it on one before working on another and Facebook is a great one to start with.
Contact me with any questions or concerns you may have, happy to help with your social media needs. Or heck, if you need help with your website, search engine optimization, blogging, email marketing or most things marketing, let me know.

Kristen, well said. I love the break down and simplicity of your post. So many times when we talk or read about being a social media rockstar and about value or consistency the information ends up confusing us more. Thank you for a great blog post! 🙂
Thank you Patty… I am glad that it was simple for you
Great reminders on how to make social media work for you business. I agree it’s really important to offer value and to be consistent.
Thank you Tami! It IS important
I am slowly getting better at my social media strategy. I know my target market is on facebook and pinterest so I focus my time there, but still getting used to how often and what to pin. I also agree that value is huge. Still working to figure out what is of value to my clients, women over 40 who want to live a healthy life. Thanks for the info to get me thinking.
YAY Karen, so glad to hear that. I pin all of my blogs but maybe spend a little time each day or week. I think you are on track!
Great tips on making your social media page a success. I agree that uniformity is important between social media sites. It helps visitors start to recognize you by your brand. I also recommend revisiting these pages once a year to freshen up the images.
Hopefully folks are on their page more than once a year… but I know what you mean Sabrina! Agreed. lol
I love the way you always make me realize I still have stuff to do! Thanks! And thank you for making it look easy!
I don’t know if I should feel bad or say thank you? lmao Glad I make it look easy at least! lol
One of the issues I have come up against is when I have a spurt of energy I sign up for everything and then get overwhelmed. I have learned to stop it, but the reminder to be consistent was really helpful!
OH Candess, you are not alone.. we soooo want to do it all… but it seems as if you are learning more and more about that! lol
Always love reading your advice even if it seems basic. I ask myself, am I doing this, and this way & when I can say yes, I give myself a treat. Consistency & rinse & repeat once you discover what works. OI got it down on some platforms, not all.
I’m TRYING to make it basic… bite sized pieces.. Roz so folks can follow it.. so glad to hear that is working. I’m glad you still follow some checks and balances on it though too….and treat yourself! YAY!
Social Ninja.. Love that graphic. I agree about the consistency. It’s relatively easy to set up all the social media, but then what? If we leave out our own personality or heaven forbid forget to post altogether, then all that time was wasted.
That being said, I find it is easier for me if I concentrate on one or two platforms while being relaxed about the rest.
YES Alene.. no need to be on them all. Go where you know and where you can STAY! Glad you are getting out there and thanks for stopping by. Glad you loved the graphic.. my lil Ninja! lol
Great Social Media Tips!! I did my social profiles so long ago that I know I need to go back and check them to make sure that they are current.
Super idea Tricia.. you really do need to revisit your profiles every once in awhile to be sure to add new services/products as well as remove old stuff and etc. Thank you!
Preach! It gets old seeing people promote their business exclusively on Facebook. And I can’t imagine that they are getting any value from that either. There’s got to be a balance. I don’t mind promotional pieces from companies that give me a lot in return. I see that as a fair exchange. I feel a great deal more good will toward a company when they provide interesting, non-promotional content as well.
Yep.. salesy in your face stuff is a thing of the past… it’s not about us and when businesses get it.. they will be better received, for sure! Thanks Jennifer!
Consistency is so key not only in social media, but in life! This is a great post and reminds me that each platform is unique and we need to create the appropriate posts and schedule with a frequency where the posts will be seen. Yes, a profile picture is so important and I see how many people lack the consistency in how they appear on their social media profiles. Thanks for the tips! Always valuable…and you are always willing to help without being asked.
Yes that is so true Beverley, we need to be consistent in everything we do.
Many times I find myself in teacher mode (I can’t help it), so it’s good to remember to let my personality shine through (God help you all!). I walk a fine line between brusque and zany, Do I really want people to know this about me? Well, you asked for it! 😉
Umm, seriously Carol, you are asking ME.. of all people? Yes girl.. let it shine!
What a great article! Lots of nuggets I need to work on!
Yes Robin and thank you. Let me know if you need any help.
Great share Kristen! Love it social media ninja! Definately do all of the above daily and consistently 🙂 Awesome tips! Thanks for sharing your value!
Yea, so glad to hear Joan! Keep it up.
Kristen – another great post. I have purchased your Facebook video tutorials, but haven’t had time to get to them yet. Should be able to by the 14th. Am looking forward to them – your site has become my “go-to”” place to learn about social media.
Thanks Joan and I noticed that.. both.. that you got it but hadn’t watched… hope you can make the time. Thank you for sharing I am your go to. Thanks!
I am working so hard to offer value and be consistent! I struggle with being able to create my blog post on time. I have been publishing it Tuesday afternoons, but today didn’t happen, so it will be Wed morning. I guess that is a consistency fail? How can people be so creative on a regular schedule?? #workingonit
I hear you Kim and it’s just something you have to commit to. I do the same thing, put it on my calendar for Monday, and some days it still ends up being Wednesday I am finishing up. Hang in there and keep working on it!
I especially liked your point about the About Page, Kristen. When we first put our website up, we write it and forget about it. Thinking that we’ve said everything that needs to be said. It’s good to go back from time to time to update it. Especially, see if your SEO words are relevant or need to be updated, if you’ve added new services/products, or there are new things about yourself that you should be letting your readers know about.
Absolutely Joyce, you are right on… we need to be sure that we are updating our site with relevant info.
