Well, we have all heard the words….. ‘Content is King‘. So, is content really King? Well in my industry and opinion, I am surely NOT going to tell you that it’s not, because content is King but it doesn’t stop there is my main point. You can have the best content in the world and if your website stinks and you don’t share your contact with anyone, then it doesn’t get seen and that right there is….Pointless!
Get it out there
So now that you have this great content you need to make sure that you share it and put it out in the internet world so others could see, and hopefully share it. So what’s the best way to do this? A great way to start is to participate in share the love blog days (FB groups where you post your link and promise to comment and share on other people’s blogs because they will comment and share yours). Then, you could also look for opportunities to guest blog, engage with other people’s blogs, participate in forums and actually get out there and be authentic… those sorts of things. Other ways that you can get your blog and content out there is to put sharing plugins on your blog so that others can share it. The point here is to make sure that it is easy to comment and share, because if you make it difficult then you’re making the reader and the sharer work harder and they’re going to walk away.
Blog with a checklist to share your all of your #evergreen content. #blogtips #share Click To TweetAnother cool tip about getting out there is to share your stuff on social media over and over again. As long as your content is Evergreen (valuable today and in 3, 6 or 12 months from now), you can share and schedule your Evergreen content to your various social media platforms on a regular and recurring basis. Your blogs are not meant to post and share once and be done with it. Your blogs are intended to re-share on various platforms, various times and then reoccurring times. Again, I like to call these evergreen posts because they will continuously be able to be shared throughout the year and years to come.
Recap on sharing:
- share your valuable blogs on your own social media
- participate in share the love days – reciprocal sharing
- find opportunities to guest blog
- engage on other people’s blogs
- authentic engagement on forums
- add sharing and comment plugins to your website (make it easy)
- reschedule and reshare evergreen content
Sharing tips – super duper special stuff
I have is a nice little checklist that tells me where I need to share a blog and things that I need to do once I write a blog. I’m going to lay them out for you here…. yup.. for FREE… just to help YOU! You are welcome! 😉
- write my blog then add to my spreadsheet
- get shortened (and trackable) link with Go.ogl or whatever shortener you want
- share with Buffer to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+
- share on medium
- share on LinkedIn as a published post. now called article
- share on Tumblr
- Stumble blog
- pin one or two images to one or two Pinterest boards (infographics rock)
- bookmark on Delicious (note, this can be quirky at times)
- bookmark on Digg
- bookmark on Diigo
- Recycle
Once I add a blog to my spreadsheet, it is now in motion to be shared on a regular and recurring basis. Note, I blog once a week but share a blog a day… so you do the math! Obviously as I add more blogs it takes longer for them to be recycled but the point is if you have 10 blogs then they get shared every 10 days, if I have a hundred blogs and they get shared every hundred days, if I have 365 blogs they get shared once a year… you get the idea.
Make it pretty
Now that you have this great blog content and that you’re posting and sharing it, you want to be sure the readers will stick around when they get there. When readers come to your website for this amazing content, if it looks messy, is hard to read, has boldface font all over the place, has various colors of text, no pictures or too many pictures, you’re going to lose the reader. So the idea is to make it easy to read, easy to skim, and to tell the story in an effective manner. I’ve written various blogs on it so feel free to check those out they are linked with this blog.
Blog quality #evergreen content, make it pretty, #share on social media, rinse & repeat! Click To TweetBottom line
Hopefully this is been a nice little reminder that yes Content is still in fact King however your content is pointless if you aren’t continuing your efforts and due diligence to:
- make it look nice
- easy for the readers to read
- easy for them to comment on
- easy for them to share
- make sure that you are sharing it to social on a regular basis

I love the infographic Kristen – makes it so easy to check you’ve done all the steps. I keep forgetting to reshare my evergreen posts. What do you think of link ups? I’ve been involved in a few but the response seems a bit less than just sharing on social media and, of course, participating in share the love days in FB groups.
Thanks Tami… what do you mean by linkups? Other groups that are doing the same thing we are? Well, we know they work.. as we are all doing it in our group.
Link up parties – not part of Facebook. They are on someone’s blog. I’ve found if you don’t leave your link right when the party opens you tend to get lost in the crowd.
OHhhh, gotcha.. so almost like a FB group STL but live on someone’s website.. I can see that if you aren’t first on the the thread, you may get missed, like a large STL group that doesn’t have regular reciprocation, which is the issue in most of those groups. Every man for themselves, it seems, these days.
Kristen,
I went on Go.ogl and it had a post from July. Is there anything I can do to shorten my link ?It is a wonderful article with tips that I am starting to use Medium to get ideas about my clients and their ” Pain Points”!
Lori English
You logged onto YOUR Goo.gl Lori? You follow the directions for shortening it. Not sure what else you mean. Thanks
Who ARE your clients Lori?
I would definitely be interested in using something like this, not only for my personal web blog but for my company website, both run on Guest Blog.
Awesome, as you should Wilson
Love this article! The infographic is awesome! I am moving towards doing better, but can’t have it all at once. As long as I am making steps in the right direction, I will get there. And your map will help tons!
Thanks so much Robin.. thought with all of my checklists I had to include an infographic! 😉
Ohmygosh, I wish I was as organized as you! Still, I appreciate the tips and pointers, especially about evergreen content. Well done, Kristen!
Oh Reba, I am sooooo sickninglylike organized… yes.. I make myself sick! LOL Glad to help
True, one does need to make sure to share the content and get it out there. Also mention people in tweets you think might get value from your articles. People that are part of your conversational community on Twitter, not random people. For me, that has been very valuable. Also to choose the best 1-2 hashtags for the specific article.
Super addition Kata… add handles or tag influencers if they are mentioned in the article/blog… but careful not to bombard folks indeed. Nice… create or find trendy hashtags to use… also valuable.
Thank you Kristen for these awesome tips on why it’s so important to share your content everywhere! Love these cool checklists ?
You are so welcome Joan
Yes, yes, yes! I absolutely believe content is king AND visuals are important. I always appreciate how you break things up and make things ‘visually appealing’. That makes complete sense and is something I need to work on more. I also need to create more visuals for my blogs that summarize my tips and make it easy for people to share all over. Sometimes, I get so caught up in the writing of the blog, the visuals take a back seat. This article reminded me that ALL of it is important.
Thanks so much Tandy… I think that blogs, especially in my industry, need to be this way… to help others who don’t understand.. you break it down in bite sized pieces. Visuals should be in mind as you are creating, indeed… glad to be your constant reminder. 😉
One of my biggest takeaway from your article is, engaging with other people’s blog. I need to set up a strategy to guest blog and increase my audience and back links too.
That is true… Apolline, not just write and done.. but to share and to engage with others to help with linking for sure. Glad you are moving on it.. and wonderful article on Google + too!
Weren’t we just talking about this? One’s site is not the Field of Dreams. Just because you write it, doesn’t mean that people will read it. I feel like the real work on a post begins AFTER the writing / editing / graphics are done. You have to help the tools available to us find it.
Yes ma’am.. we sure were. I wish my site was like the Field of Dreams.. right Jennifer! lol
Yes Yes Yes it is king and i am so glad you pointed out a bunch of other ways to share content and how to get the most out of an evergreen blog post. So many people forget about their old blog posts that are in actual fact still current.
You are so welcome Sonya!
You know that I definitely agree 1000% about evergreen content as you know how obsessed I am with Pinterest for that one reason. Great post and tips as always lady!
Yes and I need to get better with Pinterest.. already started by putting longer pictures on my blogs. Thanks April
Informative. Really content is the king. Not only creating content is important. But it needs sharing. You explained that very well. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Sandra
